Sanrio to introduce new characters in the US in 2026

Sanrio, the Japanese company behind Hello Kitty, will debut around 12 characters in the United States in 2026, according to People Magazine. 

The characters have already been introduced in Japan, but it will be the first time they appear in North America. 

Jill Koch, senior vice president of marketing and brand management at Sanrio, told People Magazine, “Bringing these characters to the North American market brings us great joy because our fans—like our characters—are wonderfully diverse.” 

Each character in the Sanrio universe has fun facts about them, helping customers feel closer to them. 

The new characters being introduced are:

Cogimyun

Cogimyun is a wheat flour fairy that debuted in 2015. She is considered very fragile and can crumble at any touch.

My Sweet Piano

Considered one of Sanrio’s oldest characters, My Sweet Piano debuted in 1980 under the name Hitsuji. The sheep-like pink character is My Melody’s best friend. Her name was changed to My Sweet Piano in 2005. 

Spottie Dottie

Spottie Dottie is a female Dalmatian who wears a pink bow. She is considered a lesser-known character in the Sanrio universe. 

Hanamaruobake

Hanamaruobake is a shy ghost who debuted in 2023. He is usually seen with a cherry on top of his head and a big red pencil. 

Wish Me Mell

Designed by Cinnamoroll’s designer, Miyuki Okumura, Wish Me Mell is a character who debuted in 2010. The rabbit-like character is considered clumsy and kind. 

Corocorokuririn

Corocorokuririn is a white and orange hamster introduced in 1997. 

Mocha

Mocha is part of the Cinnamoroll universe and is considered a caring friend to Cinnamoroll.

Lloromannic 

They are a demon duo named Berry and Cherry. Appearing first in 2007, the duo are considered rivals to Cinnamoroll. 

U*SA*HA*NA

She is a colorful bunny who loves summer. She has long, curved ears and round blue eyes, which are considered her charming points. 

Magical Twin Comets 

They are twin sisters named Lili and Lulu. The twins are witches who help make people’s dreams come true with their magical powers. 

KIRIMIchan

KIRIMIchan is a piece of sliced salmon who hopes to become a very delicious meal one day. 

Marumofubiyori

Marumofubiyori is a polar bear who is a homebody and always wrapped in a blanket. His nickname, given to him by his sister, is Moppu because he always looks like he’s mopping  the floor with his blanket while walking around.
